In his first season at the Blues ‘Boeky’ worked hard to earn his spot in the senior side – and he didn’t have to wait long to make his debut, running out for the first time in Round 4 against St Kilda. It was a unique AFL debut as the match was played in New Zealand. The 22-year-old went on to notch up 11 games for the year.
Boekhorst’s trademark leap and agility was on display in Round 18 against North Melbourne. His high-flying hanger was nominated for the AFL’s Mark of the Year.
To cap off his first season, Boekhorst was named Carlton’s Best First Year Player.
